Web Apps on mobile devices use the next generation language of the web, HTML5. For over 10 years, this specification has been under development with mobile device use cases being a big consideration. Taking account of poor connectivity and the high latency inherent in todays wireless networks and the need to connect to device sensors such as GPS, HTML5 finally allows developers to write mobile apps that look “native”. Support on Android, iOS and Blackberry for HTML5 is excellent and allows cross platform applications to be developed much more efficiently than separate native apps.
Ziconix has been involved with mobile web from the start, launching a .mobi restaurant booking system back in 2007. For projects that don’t require much hardware integration and need to be deployed across all of the major platforms quickly, an HTML5 based web app may be the best fit.
